Van kills bicyclist on Grand Central Parkway in Queens
A minivan fatally struck a bicyclist after he veered into traffic on a Queens parkway early Monday, police said.
The bicyclist was on the left shoulder of the eastbound side of the Grand Central Parkway when he pedaled into the roadway and was hit by a Mazda MPV near 111th St. in East Elmhurst at about 12:50 a.m., police said.
The bicyclist, whose name was not immediately released, died at the scene.
The minivan driver, a 33-year-old man, remained at the scene and was not charged. The NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad is probing the incident.
n Brooklyn, a motorcyclist was also fighting for his life after he hit a pothole and was thrown from his bike while riding south down Marcus Garvey Blvd., near Kosciuszko St. in Bedford-Stuyvesant, at about 5:30 a.m., police said.
Emergency responders rushed him to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
